Can you explain what Dye Sublimation means?
A quick search on the Internet using the word 'Sublimation' will return 1000's of pages. Many of these refer to Dye Sub thermal proofing printers. These do not constitute dye sublimation printing in relation to ISub (Education’s) core business.

The term Dye Sublimation can be simply defined by the sentence, 'Solid dye particles being changed into gas using heat and pressure, which then bond with any Polymers present, and then change back into a solid'.

In English, this equates to putting sublimation ink on paper and applying heat and pressure.

What is the difference between a clam heat press and a swing away heat press?
A clam heat press operates like a crocodiles jaw. This means the top heated plate is at an angle facing the operator, when the press is open. A swing away press operates by the top heated plate rotating away from the operator, this is the most popular style used within schools and colleges.

What is an ICC profile and do I need one?
ICC (International Color Consortium) profiles represent the color space of a specific substrate, ink, printer, monitor or capture device. Colour profiles simply let one piece of hardware or software know how another device or image has created its colours and how they should be interpreted or reproduced.

ISub (education) creates ICC profiles that encompass the different combinations of printers, print resolutions, sublimation inks, paper and substrates. You don’t have to have an ICC profile, but it will help you to achieve more accurate colour, if you do use one and reduce your colour matching time.

What is a bulk ink feeder?
A bulk ink feeder is a system replaces ink cartridges in your printer and which can supply inks continuously from external refillable reservoir. This enables you to refill just the colour that is running low. You cannot do this with cartridges where you are forced to throw away any remaining ink in the cartridge just because one colour is empty.

Do I need to use special paper in my printer?
Unlike normal inkjet printing, where the ink remains in the paper, with dye sublimation, we transfer the ink off the paper again and into the substrate. For this reason, it is advisable to use a special dye sub paper, which is specially formulated to release the ink again.

ISub (Education) offers two ranges of Dye Sublimation papers. Both are designed to be used with the current 4, 6 and 7 colour printers and offer excellent performance and ink release to maximise transfer to your substrate.

These papers offers excellent dimensional strength under ink heavy ink loads (reduced wet-cockling) and high dye transfer to your end substrate. This results in lower ink limits and approximate ink saving of 25% versus other brands of sublimation media. All this means improved production reliability.
