SMALL FORMAT DYE SUBLIMATION

What Equipment is Required to Sublimate?

Getting Started?

To get your school started in Dye Sublimation printing, you will need to invest in one of our desktop based Dye Sublimation printing systems. We offer print systems in a variety of print output sizes, that ranges from our entry level solution at A4 size, next is two mid range solutions at A3 size and we finish with our Pro solution at A2 size.

Regardless of print size, all the systems comprise of the same basic system components, which are as follows:

Typically, our Starter Packages offer the best value for money and you can see information on them by clicking here:
View Starter packages now.

However, below we will cover each component of the print system, in depth, including possible optional extras that you may wish to consider.

Inkjet Printers

The inkjet printer is used to print your chosen image onto the sublimation paper using the sublimation ink. The printers we use are manufactured by Epson and are standard inkjet printers, however, we use the sublimation ink, rather than the standard ink.

Our printer models reflect the latest technology available on the market and we believe you should find the perfect model to match your school’s requirement.

Heat Presses

The heat press is used to sublimate the image off the paper and onto your chosen substrate to be decorated. The heat press provides the three components required for the process of sublimation to occur - heat, pressure and dwell time.

For this reason, all the presses we offer have fully adjustable temperatures, pressures and time and all the presses are CE marked.

We offer two types of flat bed heat press, firstly, the I-Tec Economy Heat Press and secondly, the Beta Maxi Swing Away Heat Press. Both are used for printing onto flat substrates. Each model is covered in detail below:

ITec Economy Heat Press -This high quality, budget priced, manually operated clam action press is suitable for most operations for small format dye sublimation.

The Clam operation results in minimum operating space and the press has an interchangable lower platen. The press is fitted with a computerised controller to monitor both temperature and time, and the pressure is manually adjusted. Available in two platen sizes of 28 x 38cm and 40 x 50cm.

Beta Maxi Swing Away Heat Press - This is our most popular desktop manual heat transfer press. It offers a full swing away heat platen, that allows full use of the lower heat bed. This model offers the safest operation within a school as the heat plate is swung away from the user when loading an item into the press.

In addition, the press has a cut away modified lower base for ease of garment loading and a 2.75" opening for ease of printing of thicker substrates. The press is fitted with a computerised controller to monitor both temperature and time, and the pressure is manually adjusted.

The heating element is designed to offer even temperature distribution and has a lifetime warranty.

Beta Mug Press - This high quality, manually operated mug press is ideal for
printing to all polyester coated mugs. It is ideal for locations with limited space as it only requires 30cm x 70cm of worktop space and is light enough to carry about.
The area that can be printed on the mug is 11 (h) x 22 (w) cm.

Note: Requires a polyester coated mug available from ISub (Education).

Bulk Ink Feeder - 'Never throw away another half full ink cartridge, just because one colour ran out!'

A bulk ink feeder replaces the normal ink cartridges in your printer, with a permanant set of ink cartridges, that are fed by ink feeding tubes from a user refillable ink chamber on the outside of the printer.

This allows your school to purchase sublimation ink, in the most cost efficient way, which is 125ml bottles. You can then refill your sublimation printer with inks, ‘on the fly’, therefore providing drastically improved print costs. When you run low on a particular colour, you just refill that specific colour by pouring ink into the relevant chamber.

The Easy Flow bulk ink systems that ISub (Education) provides are simple to fit and install in under 5 minutes, and provides a seamless way to continuous printing. The systems have auto resetting chips that when they reach 95% empty, re-set themselves to full, allowing you to continue printing.

Each Easy Flow bulk ink feeder comes pre-filled with ArTainium UV+ Sublimation inks.

ICC Profile

Colour control and colour matching is of great importance to us. If a students design contains specific colours, we want
to ensure it is faithfully reproduced when you print onto a substrate.

For this reason, ISub (Education) has created ICC colour profiles, which are designed to ensure that ‘what you see on screen, is what you get’ on your end product.

An ICC profile calibrates the prints made on your sublimation print system for specifics such as:

Printer Type • Print Resolution • Ink Type • Paper Type • Substrate

All the colour correction is handled by the package you are printing from and when you buy a sublimation printing system from ISub (Education), we supply the ICC profile to suit your print system and comprehensive instructions to set up your system to print with the right ICC profile.

If you fancy getting a headache you can read more information on ICC profiles at http://www.color.org/iccprofile.xalter

Sublimation Paper

Proven Transfer Paper for Sublimation Printing...

ISub (Education) Limited is pleased to offer two ranges of Dye Sublimation papers. Both are designed to offer excellent performance and ink release to maximise transfer to your substrate. These revolutionary papers have excellent dimensional strength under ink heavy ink loads (reduced wet-cockling) and high dye transfer to your end substrate.

This results in lower ink limits and ink saving versus other brands of sublimation medias. All this means improved production reliability. The papers are available in a range of sheet sizes shown below:

Design Software

You can print from any graphics package and many schools do try to use industry design packages such as CorelDraw, Illustrator and Photoshop.

ISub (Education) has recognised that teaching students to successfully use these industry standard design packages can be a difficult task, and the site licences for these packages can be prohibitively expensive.

For this reason, we have created a new and exciting piece of software called
Grid Magic Dye Sub, which has been created, and is exclusively planned, around the needs of the student and teacher, rather than professional graphic designers. The software introduces students to advanced image-processing techniques and allows print output via preset templates, suitable for blank sublimation imprintable Items.

This innovative BETT award winning software package is easy-to-use, and suitable for students of all ages and abilities, including those with special educational needs.

For more information on this amazing software click on the link below to view the dedicated web pages on Grid Magic Dye Sub.
